The Brief

Fry Media is a freelance business founded by Lucy, who approached me to create a full brand identity from scratch. She needed a bold, modern, and engaging visual identity, covering everything from logo design, colour palettes, and typography to a fully designed and developed website, business cards, and email signatures. Lucy wanted a bright and energetic brand, leaning into vibrant oranges, blues, and teals, paired with a stylish, curving font to create a unique and contemporary look. With no existing branding or website, I shaped the entire identity, ensuring consistency across digital and print materials. The process involved multiple design iterations, refining visuals, and crafting a user-friendly, accessible website that would showcase her work effectively.

The Process

The project involved a deep dive into brand development, starting with colour and typography exploration. After multiple iterations of logo designs, we honed in on something that felt dynamic and reflected Lucy’s personality and business style. The primary colours—bright oranges, blues, teals, and turquoise—were chosen to convey energy and creativity, while the curving font added a unique and modern touch. I worked closely with Lucy, gathering feedback through three rounds of design revisions for both the website UX design and other branding materials. This iterative process allowed us to fine-tune the designs, ensuring they were aligned with her vision. For the website, the design had to be user-friendly, responsive, and visually engaging, so I made sure the UX was smooth across all devices. Additionally, I assisted in creating imagery stock for her portfolio, ensuring consistency across all platforms and materials, from business cards to digital assets.

The Result

The final result was a cohesive brand suite that includes the logo, colour palette, typography, business cards, email signature, and an engaging website. The website was particularly rewarding, as it encapsulated the playful yet professional spirit of Fry Media. We went through a few rounds of revisions, but the final product was a beautifully designed, functional, and easy-to-navigate site that Lucy was excited to launch. The brand feels bold and approachable, effectively communicating her identity and services to her clients.

The Reflection

I absolutely loved working on the Fry Media branding project. It was a unique opportunity to design a bold and vibrant identity from scratch, and it pushed me to create something truly distinct and modern. The process of experimenting with colours, typography, and logo iterations was incredibly satisfying, especially seeing how they all came together to form a cohesive brand. Working closely with Lucy throughout the project made it even more rewarding, as her enthusiasm and vision were infectious. The end result—a website that was both functional and visually striking—was something I felt really proud of. This project stands out as one I would love to replicate in future work. I gained valuable insights into creating a brand that resonates on a personal level with the client while ensuring it’s adaptable for broader audiences.

Logo

For the logo, we explored three initial design concepts, which then expanded into six different variations. Each iteration played with shapes, textures, and styles to best reflect Lucy’s dynamic, bold brand. After refining the options, we narrowed them down to one or two finalists, further enhancing the design by adjusting font weights to achieve a bolder and more memorable logo. This process allowed the logo to truly embody the essence of the brand.

Colours

The colours evolved from a dark brown with burnt orange to a much brighter, energetic palette of vibrant oranges and burnt oranges. To create contrast and add visual interest, I introduced a petrol blue and teal, which created a striking balance with the warm tones. These colours complemented each other perfectly, providing a dynamic and fresh look that is both fun and professional.

Typography

For typography, I selected Jules Colossal, a curvy and playful font that became the central element of the brand. This font added personality and uniqueness, pairing beautifully with a simpler, clean serif font like Jules Sans. The combination of these fonts helped create a balance between boldness and elegance, working seamlessly with the contrasting colour palette.

Imagery

Fry Media’s imagery and portfolio mockups reflect sophistication and creativity, showcasing high-end design with sleek visuals and attention to detail. Bold brand colours create a cohesive identity, enhancing contrast and professionalism. Polished mockups and luxury-styled images highlight premium quality, positioning Fry Media as a leader in design and storytelling.

Stationary

For stationery, we developed Lucy’s business card by first presenting three initial designs. After refining and tweaking the designs, we landed on one final fun and bold version that matched her evolving colour scheme. This design was versatile and complemented the overall brand as the project progressed.

Website Design & Build

The Fry Media website is designed for a seamless and engaging user experience, reflecting the brand’s creativity, professionalism, and modern approach. Bold visuals, a dynamic colour palette, and clear messaging create an immediate impact, ensuring visitors quickly connect with the brand’s identity. With intuitive navigation, users can effortlessly explore services, portfolio work, and brand values. A clean layout, subtle animations, and interactive elements enhance engagement, making the browsing experience smooth and visually appealing. The carefully balanced colour palette and polished typography reinforce a contemporary and cohesive look. Each page is thoughtfully structured to guide visitors through Fry Media’s story, showcasing expertise and encouraging action—whether through inquiries, bookings, or direct engagement. The result is a visually striking, functional, and inspiring digital presence that leaves a lasting impression.
