The Brief

During my time at Blueprint Design and whilst working for them as a freelancer, I was tasked with redesigning the user experience (UX) and website for Vivisol UK, a medical oxygen company. My role focused specifically on improving the website’s user experience to meet the needs of the primary demographic: individuals aged 55 and above. The existing website was outdated, off-brand, and lacked the necessary accessibility features. I was provided with the new branding guidelines and some initial print collateral, which I had to incorporate into a modern and functional website design. The goal was to make the site more accessible, easier to navigate, and aligned with the updated branding while optimising it for both desktop and mobile use.

The Process

The project began with in-depth user research to understand the specific needs of the elderly users who relied on the site for medical information and services. From this research, I identified the key areas for improvement: accessibility, readability, and overall usability. I focused on simplifying the site navigation and ensuring that all information was clear and easy to read. I also designed the website’s structure and flow, from user journeys to wireframes, before progressing to high-fidelity designs. Throughout, I incorporated the brand’s updated colour scheme and typography to ensure consistency across all assets. The website was designed to be friendly, accessible, and easy to use, with key features like large fonts, simple navigation, and accessible forms.

The Result

The final design was a modern, clean, and user-friendly website that reflected Vivasol UK’s refreshed branding. The site was optimised for accessibility, with features designed specifically for an older audience, such as high-contrast elements, legible fonts, and clear calls to action. Unfortunately, the website has not yet been launched, as it is still under development at Blueprint. However, the design was well-received by the client and has laid the groundwork for a website that will be functional, accessible, and aligned with Vivisol UK’s new brand identity once it goes live.

The Reflection

This project allowed me to combine my UX and branding skills, as I worked to create a design that was not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional for its audience. It was a great opportunity to dive deep into accessibility best practices, ensuring that the site would be easy for older users to interact with. Although the website is still under development, I am confident that the design will have a significant impact once it is live, providing Vivisol UK with an accessible and welcoming online presence that better serves their audience.
