The Brief

For this project, I was tasked with creating two illustrations for Goodwood’s beer line: one for the Hilda beer and the other for Flying Elephant beer. Each beer had a story rooted in Goodwood’s history, and my role was to visually translate these stories into compelling illustrations for the bottles. I needed to ensure that these new designs aligned with the existing style of Goodwood’s previous beer labels while still standing out as unique within the product lineup.

The Process

The process began with producing initial sketches, which were reviewed and refined before moving on to final vector-based illustrations. These had to be flexible enough to scale for various uses, not only for the beer bottles themselves but also for other packaging and promotional materials. Once the illustrations were complete, typography was incorporated and layouts were finalised to ensure everything was polished and ready for production. This was an exciting process that allowed me to bring my own quirky, sketchy style to the project while respecting the brand’s established aesthetic.

The Result

The final result is a beautifully designed product that blends luxury with a sense of fun and heritage. The illustrations feel both timeless and playful, capturing the spirit of the Goodwood brand. Seeing these beers on shelves and knowing that my work is part of the product’s legacy makes me incredibly proud of the project’s success.

The Reflection

Looking back on the project, I’m proud of how well these illustrations fit into the Goodwood range. I learned a lot about packaging and print design, and this project was especially meaningful to me as it marked my first commercial project where my illustrations appeared on a product that is still sold today. The colours I chose helped bring the designs to life, and I loved the opportunity to highlight the whimsical charm of the stories through my illustrations.
