The Brief

The Horse and Groom wanted to create beer mats for the first time to enhance the in-house experience for their guests. The brief included designing an engaging, functional beer mat that would reflect their high-end, Michelin-star brand. The beer mats needed to feature the pub’s illustration, a bar menu, and a QR code linking to their digital events and promotions, bridging the physical and digital experience for patrons.

The Process

I created a custom illustration of The Horse and Groom pub to serve as the central design element. The front side of the beer mat features the pub’s illustration, while the back side includes a bar menu with drinks, food, and snacks that customers could easily order from. I also incorporated a QR code that links to their social media and event calendar, allowing patrons to stay connected with the pub’s offerings beyond their visit. I sourced high-quality print materials with a thick card texture to give the beer mats a luxurious feel, ensuring they were durable and premium in appearance.

The Result

These beer mats have become a key piece of the pub’s in-house branding.
