The Brief

This animation was part of a series created for Network Rail through the agency Kallidus, which produces e-learning modules for various clients. The specific module I worked on focused on train track safety, and the animation aimed to teach safety procedures in an engaging and informative way. The animation needed to incorporate high-fidelity character animation, lip sync, and background animations to effectively convey the training content while maintaining clarity and a professional tone.

The Process

For this project, I worked closely with Kallidus, who provided me with storyboards and scripts for each animation. The boards outlined the different scenes and specific details, including the animation requirements and dialogue for the lip sync. Each scene required individual attention to detail, from character animation to background work, ensuring everything was cohesive and aligned with the overall learning goals. I was responsible for animating the characters, syncing the dialogue, and designing some of the background elements. Given the nature of the project, the animations had to be high fidelity, with clean and polished visuals. The process involved regular reviews and refinements to make sure the animations met the standards required for e-learning.

The Result

The final animation was an informative, clean, and well-polished piece of work that effectively conveyed the key messages about train track safety. It was visually engaging, with high-detail character animations and seamless lip sync that added to the authenticity of the piece. The background animations were also well-integrated, enhancing the overall atmosphere and supporting the narrative. The animation was concise and succinct, aligning with the needs of the e-learning module and providing valuable information in an easily digestible format.

The Reflection

Reflecting on this project, I’m happy with the outcome considering the time constraints. The animations had to be produced under tight deadlines, and while timing and pacing could be improved, I’m proud of what was achieved in a short amount of time. The lip sync was particularly challenging, but I feel it was well-executed and added an extra layer of refinement to the final animation. Despite the time pressures, I was able to produce a high-quality, detailed animation that met the objectives of the project. If I had more time, I would have focused on the pacing a bit more, but given the circumstances, the final result was still strong and polished.
