The Brief

Ski Floralie, a luxury ski chalet in Belleville, had an existing email newsletter design originally created by another designer. The task was to take over the design and improve the process of distribution. Previously, designs were mocked up in InDesign and then exported as PNGs or JPEGs before being sent to an email company for formatting. However, the email company was no longer working with the client, and I was tasked with recreating and distributing the newsletters myself. The goal was to optimise the design, ensure compatibility with multiple browsers and devices, and streamline the process for ongoing email campaigns, while maintaining the luxury and elegance of the original design.

The Process

I began by recreating the original design within MailChimp, transitioning from the InDesign process to a more efficient, HTML-based design. This involved coding the original branding and layout elements into a responsive email format. The key was to ensure that the newsletter would display well on both desktop and mobile devices, as well as across various browsers. By working directly within MailChimp, I was able to optimise the design for better performance, faster load times, and more accurate rendering across different platforms. I also ensured that the design retained the luxurious and chic feel that Ski Floralee’s brand was known for, while also focusing on functionality and user experience.

The Result

The result was a fully optimised email template that was more efficient to produce and distribute. The newsletter now goes out every couple of months, along with corresponding social media posts. It has been well-received by both the client and the audience, offering a beautiful, elegant, and easy-to-read communication tool for promoting events, tickets, and social updates. The shift to MailChimp has made the distribution process much smoother, while still allowing the newsletter to maintain its high-end, luxury branding. This has also set a precedent for future ongoing email campaigns, providing a scalable solution for Ski Floralee’s marketing needs.

The Reflection

I’m really pleased with how this project turned out. It was a great opportunity to take an existing design and enhance the process by creating a more efficient and scalable system for ongoing newsletters. I feel the final product strikes the right balance between elegance and modern functionality. The only thing I might refine would be to further personalise the emails for specific campaigns, such as incorporating dynamic content based on subscriber preferences. But overall, the transition to an HTML-based email system has made a significant improvement in the client’s ability to send out professional, branded newsletters with ease.
