The Brief

The Summer erry Company commissioned me to design a punnet box to house 12 or more punnets of various fruits in their range, including raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and more. This box needed to be versatile enough to hold different combinations of fruits, while prominently featuring the Summer Berry branding. The client wanted to incorporate the heart element from the previous raspberry punnet design, along with their logo, key catchphrase, and a QR code for additional engagement. The design also needed to appeal to both the UK and broader European markets, with a specific design for each.

The Process

I began the project by creating four key concepts, each with mock-ups and flat designs. These concepts allowed the client to provide feedback, which I used to refine and develop the final design. The process was longer than the previous raspberry punnet project due to the larger scale of the product and the illustrative aspects that needed to be considered. Once the design was finalised, I created two versions of the box: one for the UK market with the Union Jack, and another for the European market, maintaining the same core design elements but with slight variations to cater to each region’s market.

The Result

The design was well-received by the client, who loved the fun, modern, and quirky nature of the box. The illustrative design, featuring fruit imagery on the sides, helped bring a fresh, vibrant energy to the packaging. The box now houses Summerberry’s range of fruits, and the heart element continues to reinforce the company’s ethos. The project was a success in both the UK and European markets, with the packaging helping the products stand out on shelves and engage consumers more effectively.

The Reflection

Looking back, I’m really happy with how the final design turned out. It has a bubbly, quirky, and modern feel that reflects the Summerberry brand perfectly. If I could change anything, I might have experimented a bit more with the placement of certain elements, but the final design is very balanced and effective. It was a great project to work on, and I’m proud that the packaging is now on the market, helping to bring Summerberry’s fruits to consumers in a bold and engaging way.
