The Brief

I was commissioned by the Summer Berry Company, an agriculture business that distributes fruit across Europe, to design a raspberry punnet label. This was a significant project for them, as it was the first time they would use their own branding on packaging, rather than distributing their products under third-party brands. The challenge was that they didn’t have formal brand guidelines, so I had to work with the elements available: their logo, typography, and the colours used on their social media and website. I was also asked to incorporate heart emblems, as this reflects their brand ethos.

The Process

To begin, I created four initial concepts that explored different ideas and allowed the client to provide feedback on what worked and what didn’t. After reviewing the concepts, the client decided to merge the illustrative style of one concept with the heart emblem idea from another. This formed the basis for the label design. From there, I refined the design, developing it until we had a final product that felt fresh, modern, and in line with the client’s vision. The label features a heart-shaped cutout, allowing the raspberries to be visible behind it, which makes the product feel fresh and premium.

The Result

The design was a success, and it’s now visible on shelves across the UK and Europe, with expansion into Germany on the horizon. The modern and sophisticated design stands out, thanks to the bold colour palette and the unique heart-shaped cutout. It’s received positive feedback for its clean, luxurious feel, while also being modern and eye-catching. The client is very pleased with how it represents their brand in the marketplace, and the design has helped establish their identity in the competitive fruit market.

The Reflection

Looking back, I’m really pleased with how the design turned out. If I were to change anything, I would have liked to incorporate more illustrative embossing on the bold colours to add texture. However, the client preferred to keep the design simple and sleek, so I respected their choice. Overall, I’m proud of how the label stands out in stores and how it reflects the Summer Berry Company’s ethos. It was rewarding to see my work have such a positive impact on their branding and to know that it’s contributing to the success of the company.
