The Brief

For this stage of the project, the client decided to take a completely different approach from the initial sketches, opting for a more detailed and dimensional look to better convey the scale, layout, and features of the exclusive VIP lounge area at the Festival of Speed. They wanted a design that would not only evoke the feeling of the space but also provide a clearer visualisation of its size, layout, and the luxurious elements that made it special. To meet this brief, I was commissioned to create a 3D isometric illustration, which, while still hand-illustrated, gave the final piece the appearance of a 3D render. This allowed the client to showcase the space in a more detailed, spatially accurate way, highlighting its proximity to the track, the seating arrangements, the integration of natural elements, and the luxurious features like wooden finishes.

The Process

The process of creating this piece was incredibly exciting for me, as it was a style and approach that I hadn’t previously tackled commercially. While I had worked on similar concepts in the past for e-learning and animation projects, this was the first time I had produced a 3D isometric illustration as a standalone design. I loved the challenge of bringing the space to life in this way. It required a careful balance of conveying the size of the area, its key features, and its overall aesthetic in a way that felt both visually exciting and easy to understand at a glance. The final illustration showcases the exclusivity of the area, with a focus on the seating arrangements, the plant and natural wood incorporation, and the expansive view towards the track.

The Result

The result was a dynamic and polished illustration that effectively communicated the space’s layout and its connection to the rest of the event. It was a great success in terms of visual storytelling and served its purpose in promoting the exclusive hospitality experience. Looking back, I think the piece is a perfect blend of creativity and functionality, and I was thrilled to be able to create something that contributed to the Festival of Speed’s marketing campaign in such a unique way.

The Reflection

Reflecting on the project, it was a real turning point for me in terms of pushing the boundaries of my illustrative style. This 3D-like illustration was both a technical and creative challenge, but I’m proud of how it turned out. The final result really helped to bring the exclusive nature of the VIP space to life, showing it in a way that was not only visually striking but also informative for potential ticket buyers and event-goers. I feel that this piece captures the luxury and exclusivity of the space perfectly, and it played an important role in the marketing and sales campaign for the event.
